New Jersey Transit Must Address Safety Issues on Escalators at NY Penn Station

January 14, 2015

There is a situation regarding safety on the escalators at New York Penn Station that must be brought to the attention of New Jersey Transit. At 7:40 AM I was trying to get to the 7:44 North Jersey Coast Train on Track 10 on the 7th Avenue concourse. The escalator was going down, but as I was in the middle of my trip downstairs a group of passengers that detrained from Track 9 approached the escalator. An assertive, but stupid passenger wanted to go up and turned off the escalator while people were trying to go down. This is potentially dangerous as someone could fall and be seriously injured. I have two concerns:

  1. Why wasn’t the switch to turn off the escalator locked?
  2. Why was there no customer service representative there to stop the escalator when there no passengers going down? I have seen them there before turning the escalators on or off or changing the direction.

I really suggest that New Jersey Transit look into this before there is an accident.

PATH Service Must be Available 24/7

January 11, 2015

I usually don’t take the PATH train to work, but I feel that it must run 24/7 from Newark/Harrison/Jersey City to Manhattan.  New York is the city that doesn’t sleep and there are New Jersey people who must travel there during the overnight hours.  I am asking that readers of this blog sign this petition to let the “Powers that Be” know we want PATH service all of the time.

Cold Weather Caused the First Train Delay of 2015

January 8, 2015

It was 7 degrees this morning.  The #7 train was pretty normal, but when I got to Penn Station there were delays.  The e-mail from New Jersey Transit said that the delays were caused by problems with the overhead wires caused by the cold.  It wasn’t too bad as the delay was only 15 minutes.
